8 AM :  Launched the CTD (conductivity, temperature, and depth) as is the daily routine.  Also launched the "fish."   The number of  experimental tests by several independent experimenters  properly performed is consistant with the scientific method.
The ship is in a holding pattern located just northwest of Vancouver Island.  Soon the vessel will be headed for the southern tip of the Queen Charlotte Islands to research the Haida Eddies.  This appears to be the spawning grounds of these large anticyclonic eddies.  An eddy is a circular movement of water, counter to a main current, causing a small whirlpool. In this case the Haida
Eddies are documented as having a diameter of one hundred fifty to three hundred kilometers. More tommorrow!
