Early morning rise for a cup of espresso at Ocean Station Java, some
breakfast from the mess, then aboard a work boat for a tour of Tasu
Sound. The work boat is a large Zodiac, with a 4-stroke, 200-hundred horsepower Mercury outboard engine.
Tasu Sound is located on the western side of Moresby
Island of the Queen Charlotte Islands. Tasu Sound is a remote
and narrow stretch of water forming an inlet connecting the
Pacific Ocean with a fjord. The inhabitants of the fjord were
seals, gulls, an eagle, jelly fish, and sea stars. The rocky
snow-capped peaks drew constant attention. The sounds of silence
were
welcomed as the engine was cut, allowing the scientists to collect
water
samples.
After the samples were collected, the tour was safely finished as all
climbed aboard the "Tommy G." Lunch was served as the second
party headed out for the tour. The
weather was cooperative and so was the sea. Tasu Sound inhabitants saw more curious visitors today than usual. It was a great Sunday drive.
