Below is an infrared picture of the low pressure system that
is currently giving us a bit of a "Nantucket Sleigh Ride," as they say
back east. All doors and hatches are battened down as "Heavy
Weather Procedures" continue to be in effect. Sleeping, for the
first time on board, was a bit of a challenge, as the waves
pounded the ship's hull. The feeling of being suspended
weightlessly and then dropping reminds me of a bottom turn at the base
of a headwall on skis or a ten foot wave on a surfboard. The
one difference being is this is a 274- foot vessel.
It's a smooth ride if you are able to go with the flow, otherwise
your skin turns a pale shade of green.
Scientists and researchers will catch up on paper work
and loose ends. Accurate measurements of liquids in these
conditions takes hand-eye coordination. Being Memorial
Day, it is fortunate that today is a travel day at sea as well as
on land. Enjoy the ride!
