This
morning's CTD cast was delayed due to a frayed cable. The remedy
was to replace the cable with an auxiliary cable and connection. This is
easier said than done. Have you ever climbed a ladder on a ship
at sea?
The "Fish" has been launched, and sea water is flowing into the clean
room. The clean room is trace metal clean. That means the plastic
bubble of a room has air filters, called HEPA, that draws air
from outside the bubble. Sea water analysis for trace metals, in
this case iron and copper, is conducted within the bubble.
Three Alaskan Fur Seals were spotted earlier this morning. The
seals were within three meters of the ship according to Morgan
Brunbauer, a University of Maine undergraduate in marine sciences and
chemistry. Morgan was employed at The Riverhead Foundation which
is a marine mammal and sea turtle rehabilitation center located in
Riverhead, New York.
2 PM - Hey! A sea lion just put on a show off the port side. I
was able to snap a number a pictures as this critter barked at
the ship. The pictures will be posted to the web site.
